Volleyball: LWC sweeps Cumberlands By Kyle Jackson Williamsburg, KY - The No. 22-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team recorded their 18th and final sweep of the regular season after they defeated Cumberlands (KY) 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-14) Saturday afternoon. The Blue Raiders (21-5, 13-3 MSC) hit .336 in the match compared to the Patriots (19-10, 9-7 MSC) .143 on the day, out killing the hosts 46-30 while also recording 5 service aces in the match. Johanna Alcantara led the attack for the Blue Raiders recording 12 kills in the match while Camryn Rich had 38 assists. Lauren Larzelere had a team-high 19 digs in the contest. Radaisy Valdez finished the night with three blocks. The Blue Raiders commanded the entire first set, scoring 19 points before the Patriots hit double digits. Lindsey Wilson, who put down 17 kills while hitting at a clip of .316, slid their way into a comfortable 25-14 opening set win for the 1-0 lead. Into the second set, the Patriots did a better job at keeping the score close not allowing Lindsey Wilson more than a four-point lead at times. The Patriots managed to put together a five-point run to tie the game at 15 before the Blue Raiders responded with a four-point run of their own. Lindsey Wilson ended the set on a four-point run while hitting at a team-high .355 in the second set. Kills from Alcantara and a service ace from Larzelere allowed Lindsey Wilson to earn the 25-18 set victory and 2-0 lead. Into the final set of play and it mirrored much of the first set as the Blue Raiders put up 16 points before the Patriots could hit double-digit scoring. Lindsey Wilson put down another 15 kills in the set as Madison Bidwell and Valdez put the game to bed with back-to-back kills for the 25-14 set victory and 3-0 sweep. The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team now turns their attention to Mid-South Conference tournament play as they were awarded the No. 2-seed earlier this afternoon.
