Soccer: LWC Women to host Thomas More in MSC Quarterfinals

The No. 11-ranked and No. 2-seed Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team will open postseason play on Friday, November 5, 2021, with a quarterfinal match against No. 7-seed Thomas More (KY) in the Mid-South Conference tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for 3pmCT at Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KY.

The Blue Raiders (11-3, 10-1 MSC) are on the heels of a 3-1 victory over rival Campbellsville University on Oct. 28.


Lindsey Wilson used three unanswered goals to down the Tigers on senior day. Larissa Modesto De Souza scored the equalizer in the 29th minute, while Yudaya Nakayenze and Claudia Santillan Escobar added goals in the second half for the Blue Raiders to come away with the win.

With 14 goals on the season, Rayssa Neres Gomes De Souza leads Lindsey Wilson in scoring. Emma Lindell is having a great year facilitating the offense, leading the team with a career-high nine assists. Goalkeeper Maya Caon has had a stellar start to her Blue Raider career, recording 70 saves with a 79.5 save percentage.

As for the Saints (10-8, 5-6 MSC), they enter the match after defeating Georgetown (KY) 4-2 in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference tournament. Thomas More struck early as they took the lead in the 5th minute on a goal by Amy Bos. The Saints went on to outscore the Tigers 3-2 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Junior Sydney Rhodes leads the Saints in scoring with a career-high five goals. Assist-wise, Ryann Meddings has a team-high four assists. As a team, the Saints are averaging 13.2 shots per game over the course of 18 games.

This will be the fifth all-time meeting between these two programs with the Blue Raiders winning the previous meeting earlier this season 4-1 on October 6. De Souza scored a pair of goals for the Blue Raiders, while Santillan Escobar and Nakayenze recorded a goal of their own. Lindell and Alicia Thoresen also tallied an assist in the match. Lindsey Wilson leads the all-time series 4-1 and is undefeated against the Saints in the last four meetings.
