Volleyball: LWC begins 3-game road trip this week

By Kyle Jackson

The No. 13-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team (12-3, 5-1 Mid-South Conference) prepares for a three-game road trip this week starting off with a stop at Freed-Hardeman (TN) Tuesday evening at 6pmCT at FHU Sports Center.

Last week, Lindsey Wilson went 1-1 in the week sweeping Bethel (TN) in three sets before seeing their undefeated conference run come to an end when they lost to a tough Life (GA) team in four sets. While Johanna Alcantara had 23 kills in the match, it wasn't enough for the Blue Raider offense to overcome the challenge from the Running Eagles placing Lindsey Wilson third in the conference standings.

The Lions (6-8, 1-5 MSC) enter tomorrow's match after a three-set sweep over Williams Baptist (AR) on September 25th. A combination of Ashlynne Clifft, Claire Walker and Kacey Donegan led the team with nine kills in the match while Emma Campbell had nine digs. The win comes after three straight losses to Mid-South Conference opponents, leaving the Lions 1-5 in conference play and second to last in the conference standings ahead of Pikeville (KY).

Kacey Donegan, who currently leads the Lions with 164 kills this season, sits 25th in the nation in kills per set averaging, 3.73 currently. Allie Humphry sets things up for the Lions already recording 420 assists this season, averaging 9.33 assists per set. Emma Campbell leads things on defense for the Tennessee based side recording 200 digs so far this season.

As for Lindsey Wilson, Johanna Alcantara continues to be a menace for opposition defenses leading the team in kills with 191. The junior from the Dominican Republic ranks 24th in the country with 3.75 kills per set currently and 32nd in the country in hitting percentage with a .318. Meanwhile, Camryn Rich leads the Blue Raiders in assists with 523 so far this season. The junior from Louisville, Ky. currently averages 10.25 assists per set, the 17th best assist rate in the country. Lauren Larzelere leads things defensively for the Blue Raiders with 202 digs this season averaging 4.04 per set.

Live video and live stats will be available for this match.
