Soccer: LWC Men battle past Pikeville By Kyle Jackson The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team (3-1-1, 2-0 MSC) remained undefeated in conference play Friday night completing a 3-0 win over Pikeville (KY) (0-4, 0-2 MSC). The Blue Raiders outshot the Bears 32-1 in the match with a 14-0 shot on goal mark. Cyrus Harmon and Nathaniel Onyina Opoku both got on the score sheet for Lindsey Wilson with the second goal of the night being an own goal from Pikeville's Nikolay Nikolov. It wasn't all sunshine and roses for Lindsey Wilson to start the first half as the Blue Raiders were left frustrated at a 0-0 scoreline at halftime. Lindsey Wilson were doing enough on offense but after five saves from goalkeeper Jalen Smith for Pikeville and 12 fouls from the Blue Raiders, the teams entered the half at 0-0, the first time Pikeville have held Lindsey Wilson scoreless at the break in all-time program history. The Blue Raiders finally unlocked the stubborn Pikeville defense in the 60th minute after Alexander Koziolek found the head of Harmon on the corner kick. The goal is Harmon's second of the season with Koziolek recording his first assist of the night. Later in the second half, matters got worse for the visitors with a shot coming in deflected off Nikolov and over the head of the goalkeeper for a 2-0 scoreline. Opoku put the game away for the Blue Raiders in the 85th minute with a powerful header this time from a Koziolek free-kick leading to the 3-0 win and the senior's career-high third assist of the season. The Blue Raiders return to the road next Tuesday, September 28th against Life (GA). Kickoff is set for 6pmCT. This story was posted on 2021-09-25 08:49:08
