Soccer: LWC Women fall to Georgia Gwinnett

By Christopher Webster

A pair of first half Grizzlies goals pushed (RV) Georgia Gwinnett past the No. 12-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

The Blue Raiders (1-2, 0-0 MSC) started the game aggressive as they recorded two shots on goal within the first 10 minutes of the half. Emma Lindell and Yudaya Nakayenze had great shots as they attempted to grab the early lead, but Georgia Gwinnett (5-3, 0-0 CAC) goalkeeper Matilda Waldt kept the match scoreless.

Addie Adame put Georgia Gwinnett ahead in the 15th minute on a cross from Maya Alibudbud to take a 1-0 lead. The Blue Raiders were presented with an opportunity to even the score in the 18th minute as a shot by Lindell hit the post and the Grizzlies defense was able to recover to stop the scoring chance.

The Grizzlies doubled their lead in the waning minutes of the first half as Clara Lidquist linked with Ashley Donselarr in the 40th minute to enter the break with a two-goal advantage.

Georgia Gwinnett looked to extend their lead early in the second half as Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Maya Caon saved a pair of shots from Victoria Watson in the 54th and 55th minutes.

The Blue Raiders attempted to cut into the deficit in the 79th minute as shots by Rayssa Neres Gomes De Souza and Larissa Modesto De Souza hit the post as Lindsey Wilson fell to Georgia Gwinnett 2-0.

The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team continue their home stint as they open Mid-South Conference action against Shawnee State (Ohio) on Sept. 21. Kickoff is scheduled for 5pmCT.
