LWC Volleyball opens conference play with Shawnee State Sweep By Kyle Jackson Portsmouth, OH - The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team opened conference play Monday night with a 3-0 sweep of the Shawnee State Bears. The win improves the Blue Raiders to a 6-1, 1-0 Mid-South Conference record and pushes the win streak to 5-0 in the past five games. Johanna Alcantara and Radaisy Valdez combined for 26 kills with Valdez, who recorded 14 kills, fell just a kill short of her single-match career-high of 15. Valdez also led the way in blocks with three while Camryn Rich finished the game with 36 assists. The Blue Raiders got off to a good start in the match as Alcantara led the Blue Raiders to a 25-17 win in the first set after collecting six kills, nearly half of the kills for Lindsey Wilson. Rich notched 12 assists. Valdez came to life in the second set for the Blue Raider offense as the sophomore recorded six kills and a block to take a 25-18 set win and a 2-0 lead in the match. Lindsey Wilson kept the errors to a minimum only recording two errors, the lowest amount in the match. The errors got the best of the Blue Raiders in the third set however, as the team recorded nine errors allowing the Bears to keep the score close throughout the set. Lindsey Wilson managed the strong response from the Bears with more offense of their own, putting down another 15 kills, outkilling the Bears 43-37 to secure the 25-22 set win and a 3-0 sweep. The Blue Raiders return to Biggers Sports Center for another conference match this Wednesday, Sept. 8 as they take on Thomas More (KY). First serve is scheduled for 6pmCT.
