LWC Volleyball splits opening matches at Vette City Classic By Christopher Coombs Bowling Green, KY - The Lindsey Wilson (1-1) volleyball team kicked off the 2021 campaign at the Vette City Classic with a win and a loss. The Blue Raiders took their first contest of the day in straight sets on a 3-0 sweep of Loyola (LA) before falling to No. 16 Marian (IN) 3-1. Lindsey Wilson is back on the court Saturday against IU Southeast (IN) and (RV) Reinhardt at 2pmCT and 7pmCT, respectively. Lindsey Wilson 3 | Loyola 0 | (25-22,25-10,25-18) The Blue Raiders shook off a slow start to the first set to dominate the rest of the way, producing a 3-0 sweep over Loyola (LA). Lindsey Wilson rolled in the match, producing 34 kills, just 11 attacking errors to go along with a .319 hitting percentage. Johanna Alcantara led the Lindsey Wilson attack with nine kills while adding eight digs. Camryn Rich was the facilitator, racking up 24 assists while Lauren Larzelere finished with a game-high 10 digs. Radaisy Valdez tallied two blocks for the contest. Lindsey Wilson produced double-digit kills in each of the three sets in while hitting a match-high .588 during their dominant 25-10 second set win. Lindsey Wilson trailed for just six points in the entire match, after opening the first set trailing after the first six points. Simone Tyson led the charge for the Wolfpack, producing a team-high eight kills to go along with a .333 hitting percentage. Kailyn O'Neal had 10 assists as Dallis Brown produced eight digs. Lindsey Wilson 1 | Marian 3 | (11-25,21-25,25-23,23-25) The Blue Raiders dropped their first match of the season to No. 16 Marian. The Knights took full advantage of a slow Lindsey Wilson start in their second match of the day, jumping out to a quick 2-0 match lead. Lindsey Wilson struggled in the first and second sets, hitting just .074 and .250, respectively. LWC racked up nine hitting errors across the two sets. The Blue Raiders finished the match with 21 errors including seven in a decisive fourth set. Three Blue Raiders finished with double-digit kills in Valdez (14), Alix Stoermer (13), and Alcantara (10). Valdez tied Marian's Skyler Van for a match-high in kills. Rich once again led the team with a season-high 37 assists as Larzelere managed 14 digs. Marian finished the game with a .381 hitting percentage and managed 56 kills to Lindsey Wilson's 54.
