New Host Family Orientation held at LWC By Sabine Eastham On Friday August 6, 2021, the International Student Programs (ISP) at Lindsey Wilson College held their bi-annual host parent orientation for incoming hosts. Incoming hosts: Melanie Flanagan, Jen & John Davis, David Waltz, Sue & Scott Dillery networked with seasoned host parents: Misti Konsavage, Charles & Cathy Hunt, Joanne & Mike Payne, and Charles & Jeanne Marshburn. They shared their experiences, and together discovered myths, discussed expectations and fears. Hosts will be able to meet their new students over the next few weeks, as well as in a "Meet & Greet" on September 10, 2021. Participants spoke with fond memories of past "International Marketplaces", where students will prepare authentic cuisine from their countries and share bits about their culture and traditions. This year's event will be held outdoors, October 15, 2021, where Helen Flatt Drive meets Lindsey Wilson Street. Thanks to wonderful individuals like these, and 25 additional families, international students get introduced to American life. Sharing local and family traditions with international students will help them understand what America is all about. They are young, they are here in Columbia, and they are eager to learn about American life beyond the college campus. Being a host family also means you will bring another culture into your home, open your own children's eyes to the wider world and feel a sense of pride in sharing your traditions. These unforgettable once in lifetime experiences are only possible because of our incredible hosts! Oh, the stories they can tell! We thank you from the bottom of our heart and look forward to getting to know you and our students in the upcoming months. This story was posted on 2021-08-06 17:27:02
