Counting blessings - Happy 94th birthday Pa Kinnett!

By Brenda Kinnett Mann

Pa Kinnett sure enjoyed a beautiful Sunday picnic celebrating his upcoming 94th birthday. We are so blessed and thankful to have him with us following his near-death car accident that occurred last year on his way to his 93rd birthday celebration.

I'm so thankful and amazed at his miraculous recovery from such devastating injuries. Our plans for a day of celebrating his 93rd birthday turned from a planned celebration to rushing to his car accident scene where he was transported to TJ Samson then flown to UK Hospital with life threatening injuries.

Both his lungs were punctured, he had several pelvic breaks, a hip ball joint fracture and three back breaks. We weren't given much hope, but after six months of prayers, healing, physical therapy and wearing an upper body brace, his back breaks were the last breaks to heal. He returned home in January able to walk and celebrate another birthday.

At his age physicians weren't sure his breaks would heal and weren't sure if he'd be able to walk again. Age and bone density didn't make back surgery a good option to stabilize the breaks.

He certainly loved the staff at Summit Manor and loved being there in rehab. He really missed all the staff once he returned home in January. During recovery he also survived Covid.

It was hard for me to know he had Covid and not be able to see him, but once again, he was blessed and had absolutely no Covid symptoms. I think his physical recovery was due to him being so active, social, and a tough as nails hardworking ole timer.

He had three gardens yearly, mowed his own lawn, and cut fire wood on the family farm for his basement wood stove the spring before his July accident. The accident has brought some limitations, but being able to walk, be at home and enjoy time with family and friends is a gift that he and we all thank God for every day.
