Notice: City of Columbia garbage rates updated

The City of Columbia's Sanitation Department has just completed four weeks of surveys on garbage in the city limits. This is the first time in eight years that the survey has been completed.

The City ordinance stipulates that garbage for residential is $15 per month. Commercial and industrial rates are based on an average usage and/or accumulation at $65 per ton. Rates as of the ordinance remain the same.

As a result of the survey, pertinent to industrial and commercial, some rates may be lowered, some remain the same, and some are higher. Also, it was found that some had not been being billed for garbage.

The billing cycle for Columbia residents for June services, received in July, will reflect these changes. For questions, call City Clerk Rhonda Loy at City Hall, 270-384-2501.
