VFW will raise flag Monday at Roadside Park Veterans from Columbia Post 6097, along with members of the Columbia City Council, will be at the Roadside Park on Hwy 55 South Monday, May 24, 2021 at 11amCT to install the Flag. Mayor Pam Hoots invites everyone to attend the ceremony. Joe Hare said, "We at VFW Post 6097 were pleased to have the opportunity to work with the Mayor, City Council and the Parks and Recreation Department to have the Roadside Park to be named a Veterans Park. We approached the City with the idea and an offer that we would purchase a new flag pole and maintain the flag if the park could be named a Veterans Park." He said, "The flag pole was installed 20 May 2021 and the new flag will be raised on Monday. Thanks to Parks and Recreation for installing the base and to the VFW members that installed the flag pole. We hope that the new name will be such that all Veterans feel it is in honor of them, not just VFW members, or any other veterans organization." This story was posted on 2021-05-21 15:21:29
