LWC Baseball prepares for MSC Tournament opening round series By Brady Budke Postseason play has finally arrived for the Lindsey Wilson baseball team, who will have a chance to compete in the 2021 Mid-South Conference Tournament Opening Round. The No. 4-seeded Blue Raiders will take on No. 9-seeded Shawnee State (Ohio) in a best two-out-of-three series for a chance to advance to the six-team double-elimination tournament at Bowling Green Ballpark in Bowling Green, Kentucky beginning on Thursday, May 6, 2021. Since Lindsey Wilson earned the higher seed, action is slated to take place at Egnew Park. Play will begin today with a doubleheader starting at NoonCT. If each team wins a game today, the final game to determine a winner of the series will take place on Saturday at 5:30pmCT. Live video and live stats will be available throughout the series. Both of these programs met in a three-game series back on March 11 and 12, which saw Lindsey Wilson win two of three over the Bears. Shawnee State (20-23) finished the regular season by dropping three straight games. Fielding has been a struggle this season for the Bears, who have accumulated a conference-high 102 total errors (2.3 per game) while holding the worst fielding percentage in the MSC at .924. However, the team carries consistent pitching by holding the third-best mark in the conference of 7.8 batters struck out per game. On offense, Jacob Kline is a player to watch, as he leads the MSC in runs batted in per game (1.4). Kline has also accumulated at least one hit in nine of his last 10 games played. As for Lindsey Wilson (20-20), the Blue Raiders finished the regular season off well by claiming three straight victories. Offense has been a strong point for LWC, who sits second in the MSC in runs per game (7.2) and hits per game (9.8). Derek Zavala has corralled a team-high 50 hits while Henry Paulino leads the way with 34 RBIs. Defensively, Lindsey Wilson is allowing 7.4 runs per game to opponents. Brady Cappe holds a team-best 61 strikeouts while Cohen Achen has gathered the lowest earned run average of 1.99 through 49 2/3 innings. This story was posted on 2021-04-30 10:08:14
