No. 25 LWC Men's Soccer Upsets No. 7 William Carey

By Kyle Jackson

Hattiesburg, MS - The No. 25 Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team (11-3-2, 8-1-2 MSC) upset No. 7 William Carey (MS) 1-0 Saturday evening, thanks to an outstanding goal from David Ibrahimkadic in the second half. The Blue Raiders now advance to the next round of the NAIA National Tournament in Columbia County, Georgia.

Cyrus Harmon led the Blue Raiders on the evening with four shots while five Blue Raiders all had a shot on goal in the match. David Coffey made five saves for the team tonight with the Blue Raiders outshooting the Crusaders 18-13 with an even 5-5 shot on goal mark for both teams.

The Blue Raiders were shooting early in the game and outshot the Crusaders 12-3 after the first 45 minutes but could not find a goal in the opening period. Cyrus Harmon had a couple of efforts that were deflected out for corner kicks while Vitor De Lima was handed the first yellow card of the match in the 23rd minute for a rough tackle on a William Carey player. As the teams entered the break at 0-0, Lindsey Wilson held the momentum but needed a goal for their efforts.

As the second half began, Lindsey Wilson restarted where they left off, taking shots at goal. Julien Gastaldy, who scored a spectacular goal in the previous match against WVU Tech, nearly did the same in the 54th minute, but his effort went wide of the goal this time around. Ibrahimkadic finally broke the deadlock for the Blue Raiders a few minutes later after finishing an ambitious effort from the left side of the box into the top right corner. Neville Morgan assisted in the goal from Ibrahimkadic, giving him a team-high nine assists this season and a new career-high. As the half neared its conclusion, Coffey was called up to make some big saves for the Blue Raiders, and did he answer the call. The senior goalkeeper got his hands to everything that came his way in the final moments and helped secure the 1-0 victory for Lindsey Wilson.

The Blue Raiders now advance to the next round of the NAIA National Tournament in Columbia County, Georgia, and wait for the announcement of their next opponent.
