LWC Softball left searching for answers in Georgia By Joel Snyder Lawrenceville, GA - The offensive woes continued for the Lindsey Wilson softball team as they dropped a pair of scoreless affairs against No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett on Friday afternoon at the Grizzlies Softball Complex. The Blue Raiders have now lost four consecutive contests for the first time since losing five straight in February of 2009. Game 1: Lindsey Wilson 0, Georgia Gwinnett 2 A pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth inning spoiled an otherwise brilliant performance from Annabelle Ramirez. The senior ace turned in her fourteenth outing of the season in which she recorded 10 or more strikeouts, retiring 11 Grizzlies from the circle. However, a shaky fourth frame ultimately cost the visitors. Georgia Gwinnett would pounce on two errant pitches to plate their only runs of the game. The Blue Raider offense managed only two singles of Grizzlies' starter Alexa Good, and despite five walks drawn and two batters hit by pitches, Lindsey Wilson could not get any farther around the diamond than second base. Makea-Al Kaluau and pinch-hitter, Elizabeth Funk tallied the two base-hits for the Blue Raiders, who ultimately left nine runners on base. Game 2: Lindsey Wilson 0, Georgia Gwinnett 5 In the second time around, the Grizzlies struck early, courtesy of a Sydney Pelaez RBI-double in the home-half of the first inning. Now leading 1-0, Piper Wagner got to work in the circle for Georgia Gwinnett, limiting the Blue Raiders to infield singles. She then flipped the switch to offense, connecting on a two-run home run in the bottom leg of the third inning to extend the Grizzlies' lead to 4-0. The closest Lindsey Wilson got to scoring came in the top of the sixth. Following a Kaluau single, Lexi Isable skyed a deep shot into left center field, picking up two bases in the process and pushing Kaluau up to third. Unfortunately, the Georgia Gwinnett defense garnered back-to-back subsequent groundouts to silence the threat. Hannah Epperson fired a complete-game effort for Lindsey Wilson, striking out two over six innings of work. On the day, Kaluau and Funk each totaled a pair of hits, making up four of the Blue Raiders' nine total.
