Adair Co. Genealogy and History Research Center opens

Monday, April 19, 2021, saw the opening of the new Adair County Genealogy and History Research Center next door to the Adair County Public Library, at 307 Greensburg Street. Originally scheduled for April 12, the opening was delayed by a week for final installation of some shelving and furniture.

Phil Hanna, Anita Riddle, and Ernie Bennett oversaw the first visitors to the new facility. Opening day brought a who's who of local historians and researchers to take a socially distanced look.

The Adair County Genealogy and History Research Center is open weekdays from 9amCT to 5pmCT, and on Saturdays from 8amCT to NoonCT.

As Mike Watson says, "The Adair County Genealogy and History Research Center will be a true asset to this town and county for many years to come; will bring more and more people who will return year after year."

Shelves in the Research Center contain local, regional, state and national publications and collections: Family Surname books and paper collections, Adair County records of every type, Adair County Schools and Lindsey Wilson yearbooks, many Kentucky Counties books, Military publications including Revolutionary and Civil Wars, Church publications, United States histories and county research publications from may of the eastern states including Virginia, North and Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland, New England and more, Photograph collections, Business papers, and more.
