By Kyle Jackson

Grand Rapids, MI - The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team swept Cornerstone (MI) 3-0 Saturday afternoon, advancing themselves into the next round of the NAIA National Tournament.

The Blue Raiders improved to a 22-3 overall record after defeating The Golden Eagles 27-25, 25-16, 25-22.

Alexis Smith and Radaisy Valdez both had big games on the offense for the Blue Raiders, leading the team with 13 kills tonight. Camryn Rich collected her 15th double-double this season after recording 37 assists and 16 digs on the afternoon. Lauren Larzelere led things on the defense with the junior recording 19 digs today.

The Blue Raiders fought a tough battle in the first set, going down 4-1 to Cornerstone to begin the match before going on a run to tie it at 5-5. Both teams traded the lead as they battled neck-and-neck for every point. Valdez came up big in the final moments for her team, getting the winning kill of the set and giving her team the 1-0 advantage into the second set.

Lindsey Wilson's momentum continued into the second set as the Blue Raiders got off to an 8-0 start forcing The Golden Eagles into an early timeout. The Blue Raiders kept a commanding lead throughout much of the second set, fending off every attempted comeback from The Golden Eagles to win it 25-16 and be a set away from the sweep.

Both teams battled for the lead through the beginning of the third set with the teams tied 3-3 after the first six points. Through the next round of points, the Blue Raiders began a run after a couple of attacking errors from Cornerstone. The Golden Eagles tried to rally for the comeback later in the set, but it fell short and Lindsey Wilson won the match after three sets.

The Blue Raiders advance to the next portion of the NAIA National Volleyball Championships which will feature pool play match-ups. Lindsey Wilson will learn their next opponents tomorrow on NAIA.org.
