LWC Baseball drops series finale against No. 25 Freed-Hardeman By Brady Budke Despite grabbing two wins over the No. 25-ranked team Sunday, the Lindsey Wilson baseball team could not complete a series sweep, falling at the hands of Freed-Hardeman (TN) by a final of 18-6 in eight innings Monday at Egnew Park in the series finale. With the loss, LWC now holds a 17-18 overall record which includes a 11-10 mark in the Mid-South Conference. FHU improves to 18-18 overall and 11-5 in the MSC. The Blue Raiders had another big game from the plate, producing 13 hits on offense. Despite this strong number, the Lions rolled out 14 hits in return to have the most of either team. The duo of Ty Menrath and Henry Paulino led LWC with three hits each. Notably, Paulino came up just short of hitting for the cycle, notching a single, triple, and home run this afternoon. Right behind, Derek Zavala, Tyler Maskill, and Jaden Cockerel all had two hits apiece while Seth Price tallied one. Five different pitchers saw action on the bump today for Lindsey Wilson. Brady Cappe was tabbed as the losing pitcher after earning the start, going 1-2/3 innings where he allowed eight hits, nine earned runs, and two walks while recording two strikeouts. Ryan Marples replaced Cappe, failing to record an out while allowing two earned runs and two walks. Jalen Riley came in to relieve Marples and pitched a team-high 4-1/3 innings where he managed four K's while allowing two earned runs. Gabe Board and Kyle Collin each pitched a full inning of work, where Board gave up two earned runs while Collin allowed three earned runs. The Blue Raiders fell behind 11-0 in the opening two innings, allowing a four-run first inning and a seven-run second inning. However, Lindsey Wilson went on to score at least one run in five straight innings (second to sixth) to keep the game competitive. Despite this, with the help of lone runs in the third and fifth, Freed-Hardeman eventually secured the eight inning victory by bringing home five runs in the eighth to go back up by double-digits. The Lindsey Wilson baseball team is set to return to action on Wednesday, traveling to (RV) IU Southeast to battle the Grenadiers beginning at 2:30 p.m. CT.
