Wearing Blue for Blake - a Thank You

By Cathy Martin

March 19, 2021 - We cannot begin to tell each & every one of you what it means for you all to be sharing your love for Blake today.

No better day to celebrate his memory than on the 1st day of the NCAA tournament, playing the game he loved.

David & I don’t make it through a single day without shedding tears, missing everything about him. He laughed to the fullest & enjoyed ALL his time with Haley Martin, Avery & Asher. He never wanted a birthday, holiday or any kind of meal to be overlooked without sharing FAMILY time.

He looked forward to us all being together.

I don’t think anyone was happier than “Nanny & Grand daddy” moving to town, than he was. He shed several tears leaving the house at Portland where he & all the rest of the grandchildren had spend so much time, but was glad to have our entire family in town so he & Asher could go by every day (almost) to check on them or for a short visit.

He constantly aggravated McKenzie Martin about going back to Law School. I know there was no one happier than he was when she decided to go to Law School. At the funeral home, we always saw him pulling out his phone sharing pictures of Asher & Avery. His chest would just swell when he talked about his boys! He was SO excited to be teaching Asher the game of basketball. He would send us a video of Asher dunking the ball & he’d say, you gotta come out and be a judge for his dunking contest.

For all of you involved in any way for making this possible, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We ask that if you haven’t posted your photo today of you in your blue, please do so. Haley is putting a scrapbook together for the boys. Blake would be so proud!

Wearing Blue for Blake - McKenzie says thank you

2021-03-24 - Lexington, KY - Photo from family collection.
Cathy and David's daughter McKenzie Martin also wore blue in remembrance of her brother Blake from her location as a law school student. She wrote, "Feeling the #blueforBlake love all the way in Lexington today. Seeing all the blue today has been a sweet reminder of how much he is still loved and missed.

"It is rare that I don’t have something to say, but the continued outpouring of love from our community the last three months has left me speechless. So I’ll just say thank you. Thank for loving me, for loving my family, and for loving Blake by helping keep his memory alive."
