LWC Baseball faces #8 Cumberlands today in Williamsburg

Conference play continues on for the Lindsey Wilson baseball team, this time against one of the toughest opponents on the schedule. The Blue Raiders will travel to No. 8 Cumberlands (KY) today to play a single game against the Patriots at Doyle Buhl Stadium in Williamsburg, Kentucky. First pitch is slated for 4pmCT.

Live video and live stats will be available for this game. According to the Cumberlands Outdoor Sports Fan Policy, no visiting fans are permitted for the spring 2021 season.



Entering today, Lindsey Wilson has fallen six straight times to Cumberlands on the field, with the last win coming on April 8, 2017.

The Patriots (19-3, 1-2 MSC) recently lost two of three games against Bethel (Tenn.) this past Thursday and Friday at home.

This season, Cumberlands has scored a conference-best 180 runs on offense. The strong duo of Jose Rojas and Ray Villanueva continue to hit the ball well for UC, with Rojas leading the MSC in total hits (34) while Villanueva sits in second (30). Bryan Leef also adds his conference-best 26 RBIs to the lineup.

Defensively, the Patriots have allowed just 81 runs to opponents this year. Colton Easterwood has pitched a team-high 27 2/3 innings while sitting second in the conference with 42 strikeouts.

Lindsey Wilson (8-10, 5-4 MSC) won its second conference series of the season this past Thursday and Friday, taking two of three games from Shawnee State (Ohio).

The Blue Raiders continue to hit the ball with high consistency this season, leading the MSC at 9.9 hits per game. Derek Zavala leads the way with 27 hits while also holding a team-high in RBIs (16), stolen bases (13), and doubles (six).

On defense, LWC sits at the bottom of the conference having allowed 141 total runs this year. Brady Cappe has corralled a team-high 33 1/3 innings pitched with 37 strikeouts for a 9.9 K's per game average.
