Parnell and Coleman heading to national tournament By Maggie Coleman Adair County homechoolers Dillion Parnell (Senior) and Gabe Coleman (6th grader) are playing for the Cumberland Christian Home Educators based out of Somerset. The team has two Kentucky Christian Schools Athletic Association state championships already and hopes for a third in two weeks under the leadership of volunteer Head Coach Mark Coleman. Mark coached the Middle School team, including his son Gabe, to a winning season of 11-3. In December, the head JV and Varsity coach had to step aside due to a family member who was at very high risk for Covid, so Mark accepted the role as head coach for all three teams. Senior Dillion Parnell was the standout player on his Senior Night this week at home against Clay Mill Christian Academy, shooting 6 three-pointers for an average of 75% from the 3-point line and ending the game with 24 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists. The Hawks brought home a victory against Clay Mill, making their record 10-3 overall as they gear up to attend the National Homeschool Basketball Championship Tournament next week in Gatlinburg, TN, then the Kentucky Christian Schools Athletic Conference State Tournament the following week.
