Brad Stone: always grateful for Adair education

"...Adair County gave us a firm footing that allows us to be sensible and decent people wherever we find ourselves..."

By Dr. Brad Elliott Stone

ColumbiaMagazine.com announced in the local news my promotion at LMU. I am always proud of having grown up in Adair County. Look around at many of my classmates from the Adair County High School Class of 1994. We are successful leaders all over the country and the planet.

That is due to the great educations we received from people we knew. Our teachers knew our parents, shopped at the same stores, went to the same churches. Our schools were truly community-owned and operated.

I attended Sparksville Grade Center from 1981-1990. I was taught by neighbors. I had excellent teachers that cared about me. Even the school secretary was a long-time family friend. That mattered.

I studied at Adair County High School from 1990-1994. Once again, there was real community, and my teachers were real citizens of the county. My teachers invested in me and encouraged me to go to college. That investment has paid off.

I am focusing on educators here, but there were many others in Adair County that always supported me. I am always grateful.

There are many others who would surely agree that our childhoods in Adair County gave us a firm footing that allows us to be sensible and decent people wherever we find ourselves. Thank you.
