Merlin Phillips, 88

Merlin Phillips, 88, a a resident of Summit Manor Nursing Home, died Friday, January 7, 2005, at 8:25 a.m., at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville.

The funeral will be Sunday, January 9, 2005, at 1:00 p.m., at Grissom Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Rev. John Reilly officiating.


A native of Taylor County, KY, he was a son of the late Lawrence William and Bertie Lee Eads Phillips. He was retired from Fruit of the Loom and was a member of the First Methodist Church in Campbellsville and attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Columbia.

He is surved by his wife, Edith Shirley Phillips, Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • Three daughters and their husbands: Ermine and Neal Jenkins, Louisville, KY; Mary and Dale Wilkerson, Pewee Valley, KY; and Linda and Sam Clore, LaGrange, KY
  • A step-daughter and her husband: Bridget and Fred Rowe, Columbia, KY
  • Two brothers: Robert Douglas Phillips and Henry "Sonny" Phillips, both of Campbellsville, KY
  • One sister: Louise Russell, Campbellsville, KY
  • And six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Burial will be in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is after 4:30 p.m., Saturday, January 8, 2005, at Grissom Funeral Home, Columbia, KY.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Grissom Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
