LWC Wrestling rolls past Midway 41-9 By Christopher Coombs The No.3-ranked Lindsey Wilson wrestling team made their return to Biggers Sports Center after a long 47-day hiatus, easily taking down (RV) Midway (KY) 41-9. The Blue Raiders (10-0) opened the night with two quick six-point victories after the Eagles forfeited the opening two weight classes. Midway got on the board at 141-pounds when Anthony Caruso won on a 6-1 decision over Rickey Garcia. LWC rattled off three straight wins as Trent Johnson (No. 2 at 149) pinned Brent Hudgins in 2:38 of the first period. Derrick Smallwood (No. 2 at 157) and Kevin Almond (No. 5 at 157) took their nationally ranked bout into the extra frame where Smallwood secured the winning takedown to win via an 8-6 decision. Joe Koontz (No. 9 at 165) made quick work of Trevon Warren picking up the pin just 1:13 in the match. Midway won their second and final match of the evening when Sterling Griffin (No. 17 at 174) pinned Isaiah Newberry. Lindsey Wilson was able to match the six-point loss at 184-pounds when they picked up their third forfeit victory of the night. Carlos Figueroa dominated his opponent, Thomas Coleman, in the 197-pound bout making use of four-point near falls to secure the 16-0 technical fall in 2:06 of the first period. Niko Bussell closed things out at heavyweight with a 4-3 decision over Byron Pierce. Lindsey Wilson returns to the mat on Tuesday when they welcome No. 11 Cumberlands (KY) to Biggers Sports Center at 7pmCT. This story was posted on 2021-01-30 08:59:18
