Dorothy J. James, 85, Columbia, KY (1934-2020)

Dorothy J. James of Columbia passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. She was 85 years old.

Ms. James chose cremation, and the family will have a private graveside service in the Columbia Cemetery, with Pastor Jerald Bryant officiating.



She was born December 28, 1934, in Adair County, to the late Homer and Pearl Stephens Harmon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Arvist "Stick" Harmon and two sisters, Frances Pendleton and Elizabeth Harmon. She was a member of Welfare Baptist Church in Russell County and formerly employed by Russell Sportswear.

Survivors include:

  • One son - Troy James of Columbia
  • One brother - Thomas "Punk" Harmon and his wife Lois of Columbia
  • A sister-in-law - Irene Harmon of Glens Fork
  • Five nieces - Phyllis Curry, Lee Ann Jessee, Debbie Reynolds, Beverly Bryant, Lisa VanArsdale
  • Three nephews - Steve Harmon, Daryl and David Pendleton
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Green River Animal Shelter would be appreciated and can be left at the funeral home or mailed to 455 Appleby Drive, Columbia, KY 42728.
