LWC Volleyball favored to win MSC title By Christopher Coombs Lindsey Wilson volleyball is the favorite to capture the Mid-South Conference regular-season title this season, conference officials announced on Friday with the release of the preseason coaches' poll. The Blue Raiders received 121 voting points from the conference coaches and 11 of 12 first-place votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. Lindsey Wilson is the defending regular-season and tournament champions, compiling a 32-6 overall record and a 14-2 record in the conference last season. The Blue Raiders reached the round of 16 in the NAIA National Championship. The Blue Raiders have dominated the MSC in recent history, winning the last seven regular-season crowns. LWC boasts an impressive 101-4 regular-season record in the Mid-South Conference over the last seven seasons. Thomas More (KY) is slotted second in the poll with 109 points. The Saints earned the final first-place vote in the poll after finishing 24-8 and 13-3 in the MSC and reaching the championship game of the conference tournament. Georgetown (KY) is third in the poll with 92 voting points. The Tigers ended last season with a 19-13 record, including an 11-5 record in the MSC. Life (GA) is picked fourth in the poll with 88 points followed by Cumberland (TN) with 82 points. MSC newcomer Martin Methodist (TN) is slotted sixth in the poll with 65 points, Cumberlands (KY) is right behind with 64 points and Campbellsville comes in at eighth after earning 50 points. In their first season in the MSC, Bethel (TN) and Freed-Hardeman (TN) are ninth and 10th in the poll with 35 and 31 points respectively. Shawnee State (Ohio) is 11th with 31 points and Pikeville rounds out the preseason poll with 14. The Mid-South Conference Volleyball Tournament is scheduled for April 8-10 in Bowling Green, KY The Blue Raiders open their season at 6pmCT on Tuesday, Oct. 13, hitting the road to take on Asbury (KY) in Wilmore, KentucKY The Blue Raiders have one more non-conference matchup on Oct. 22 - also on the road - against IU Southeast before opening Mid-South Conference play on Feb. 15 against Freed-Hardeman (TN).
