Trabue Share, Swap, Adopt a Plant, Sat 19 Sept 2020 By Mary Anne Loy Fall is the ideal time to divide perennial plants that have become crowded, or relocate plants to other spots in the garden. The Trabue-Russell House Gardens will make their "extras" available on Saturday, September 19, 2020, beginning at 9amCT. It is also a chance for any who have too much of certain plants, to bring their extras along to swap. Some of the varieties available from the T-R Gardens are Mexican Sunflower, and Mist Flower (wild ageratum), pictured above. These both like plenty of sun, but are not otherwise too demanding. Shade lovers include Solomon's Seal and Columbia. You may also like to get a start of Spice Bush, a shrub native to the eastern United States. Its fragrance justifies its name. Plants on the T-R Gardens wish list include peonies, poppies, and rose of Sharon. Gardens have been started and sustained for generations on pass-along plants, so plan to share, swap, or adopt some of the local bounty on Saturday, September 19, 300 Jamestown Street, Columbia.
