Hershel Wayne Flowers, 87, formerly of Burkesville, KY (1932-2020)

Mr. Hershel Wayne Flowers, of Louisville, Kentucky, formerly of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away Monday, August 17, 2020 at the Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville. He was 87 years old.

The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2pmCT on Sunday, August 23, 2020, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main St, Burkesville, KY, with Bro. Gary W. Hardin and Bro. Sam Peabody officiating. Burial will be in the Modoc Cemetery in Cumberland County, Kentucky.

The body will be taken to lie in repose at the Providence Baptist Church in Brooks, Kentucky from 2pmET until 8pmET on Friday, August 23, 2020.

The family will receive friends after 3pmCT on Saturday, August 22, 2020, at Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville until the funeral hour on Sunday.



He was born on Friday, November 18, 1932 in Blue Mound, (Macon County) Illinois, the son of Hershel Travis and Montie Lura (Ashinhurst) Flowers. He was a Christian of the Baptist Faith, a member of the Providence Baptist Church in Brooks, Kentucky, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, a retiree from General Electric in Louisville, Kentucky with over 37 years of service, A member of Valley Lodge #411 F. and A.M. in Valley Station, Kentucky, dual membership in the Order of the Eastern Star, Zoneton Chapter # 576 and Burkesville Chapter #380, held many offices in the Eastern Star both Statewide and Local.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his First Wife, Glenda Lee (Norris) Flowers whom he wed October 1, 1955, she passed away March 4, 1988, his Grandson, Simon Woodrow Gosser, siblings, Edith Evans, Julia Ayres, Mary Garner, Louise Hambrick, Alberta Murray, Bill Flowers, Viola Braswell and John Flowers. He is survived by his wife Jaqueline (Clark) Sims Flowers whom he wed on May 26, 1990 of Louisville, Daughter, Portia K. Flowers of Burkesville, Kentucky, Grandson, Samuel Wayne (and Sarah) Gosser of Russell Springs, Kentucky, Great-Granddaughters, Samantha Kensley Gosser and Sadie Kayte Gosser, Sister, Helen Hardin of Burkesville, Kentucky, Step-son Tim Sims (and Ava) of Louisville, Step-daughter, Peggy (and Darrell) Stith of Louisville, Step-Grandchildren, Brad (and Elizabeth) Stith, Todd (and Jenny) Stith, Michelle (and Joel) Greenwell, Austin (and Kacee) Alcorn, and Tyler Sims, Step-Great-Grandchildren, Ocean Ledbetter, Nico Greenwell, Ellie Stith, Cecilia Stith, William Stith, Maggie Stith and Haven Alcorn. A host of Nieces and Nephews also survive.
