Eastern Box Turtle encountered on morning walk

By Larry Clark

Out on my early morning walk I came upon this turtle when I lifted it up to take a photo I noticed a large leech attached to the lower part of the shell.

I removed it and sent the turtle on its way. The leeches I encountered when I was a kid playing in the Green River were small shiny and very dark.

I thought Columbia Magazine readers would like to see a large one.
