Report to the City of Columbia

Update on March activity by Mayor Pamela Hoots

We continue to work to provide services to the residents of our community. We are working alternating shifts, cross-training, and using alternative means to ensure services are available.

The City Gas Department is still available for emergencies at 270-384-2006.

The City Sanitation Department will continue providing services. You should be picked-up on your normal day.

We are currently delaying our publication of delinquent taxes; after we did consultation with legal counsel.

The city gas bills will not be subject to a late fee this month. We are also not doing cutoffs due to non-payment this month. You can pay online at cityofcolumbiaky.com; drop-off at the box in the rear of city hall; call in at 270-384-2501; or, continue to mail in your payment.

The city parks are currently closed and not available to the public for use.

CPD on regular schedule
The Columbia City Police are working on a regular schedule. You can contact them for non-emergency at 270-384-6464 or 911 for emergency.

Parks and Recreation are doing required maintenance on building and grounds.

In other business
Some of the items completed for the March, 2020, Mayor Report are (note some done at beginning of March).

Leaves removed from the Joe Johnson Little League Park (six loads); getting ready for spring cleanup. All trash cans for the park are now located.

Fixed bathroom fixtures at the concession stand; new toilet and new water heater have been installed.

Fence cap has been put on Field #3 (600 feet); looking for installation on Field #2 (Field cap has been ordered). 100 feet on Field cap has been installed on Field #2.

Put drop rods on Field #1, Field #2, and Field #3 (gate latches).

Put new timbers in the roots on dugout at Field #2 and Field #3.

We are continuing with the remodeling and updating of the basement area at City Hall. Being done by city employees: painting, cabinets, ceiling tile replacement.

Roof repaired at the Trabue Russell House. Drywall completed inside at the Trabue Russell House.

Had a report of dumping trash off of Highway 206 at bridge. Over 20 loads of trash and two mattresses picked-up. We are going to be placing signs at that location.

Around forty loads of brush hauled during the month.

Four more tiles placed throughout the city. (More are being requested).

Several tiles cleaned by the street department due to the heavy rain.

Around 150 bags of trash picked up off of city streets.

Dalton Coppage joined the Columbia Sanitation Department (employee resigned).

The drug tip line is going well; with several calls being received.

The garbage was picked-up at the park on South Highway 55. (20 bags).

Several employees were cross-trained during the month; and, so many offered to help in any way they could during this time. (Isn't that wonderful?).

We want to continue to remind everyone to:

- Maintain social distance, which is defined as six feet.

- Check on your friends and neighbors.

- Use proper hygiene. Wash your hands often.

We will get through this together.
