James Emmett Thompson, 75, Greensburg, KY (1944-2019)

James Emmett Thompson of Greensburg passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019. He was 75 years old.

The funeral services for Mr. James Emmett Thompson will be conducted at NoonCT on Friday, December 20, 2019, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main St., Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Greasy Creek Cemetery. Bro. Leo Curry will be officiating.

Visitation is requested from 4pmCT until 8pmCT on Thursday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT on Friday until time of the funeral service.


Mr. James Emmett Thompson of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of Stella T. Stilts Curry of Greensburg and the late Orvis P. Thompson, was born on Saturday, July 15, 1944 in Springfield, Illinois and departed this life on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at the Taylor Regional Hospital. He was 75 years, five months, and two days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ, he retired after 33 years with Caterpillar as a machinist, also work as a school bus driver and a charter bus driver.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mary J. Downs Thompson of Greensburg, having united in marriage on January 25, 2014.

Other survivors include eight children and spouses: Tammy and Larry Coats of Munfordville, James Todd Thompson of Lebanon, Stacy and Tony Morgan, Brandy Thompson both of Greensburg, Mary Louise and Ron Penwell of Indiana, John Harold Barrett, Jr. of Greensburg, Ronald Wayne and Monica Barrett, Christopher Michael and Patricia Barrett both of Shepherdsville, and Melissa Dawn and Jesus Villalobos of Louisville; a brother and sister-in-law: Ed Wayne and Charlotte Thompson of Buffalo; a sister and brother-in-law: Stella Ann and Steve Durrett of Summersville; his former wife: Brenda S. Taylor of Greensburg; 30 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Thompson was also preceded in death by a infant daughter: Mandy Ellen Thompson; and a brother: Orville M. Thompson.
