Bonner Scholars Harris and Buchanan lead Coats For Kids drive

By Travis Smith

More than 50 Adair County children will have a warmer winter thanks to the work of two Lindsey Wilson College students.

Lindsey Wilson senior Bailey Harris of Columbia and sophomore Haley Buchanan of Lexington led an effort to collect 52 winter coats for children of low-income families. The coats were distributed Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Adair County Head Start for children and their siblings.

Harris and Buchanan continued a tradition that was started eight years ago by students in the Lindsey Wilson Bonner Scholars program, according to Lindsey Wilson Director of Civic Engagement & Student Leadership Natalie Vickous.

"It means so much to me that a Bonner started this initiative after seeing a need in the community," Vickous said. "Every year a new Bonner steps up to lead the drive and keep it going. Having a warm winter coat is a basic need that many of us take for granted, and I love that our students and community work together to meet that need for the children at Adair County Headstart. It's one of our favorite initiatives every year."
