Annual student-faculty game brings LWC community together

By Travis Smith

Lindsey Wilson College students, faculty and staff hit the court for friendly competition and a good cause on Thursday evening.

The third-annual Lindsey Wilson student-faculty & staff basketball game was held in Biggers Sports Center in front of an energetic crowd of nearly 350 students and onlookers. Fans were encouraged to bring canned food items to donate to Joy Ministries of Columbia, Kentucky.

SGA President and Business Administration Senior Jakob Beckley of Pleasureville, Ky., was public address announcer for the game. Beckley said that the event works well because of the harmony that exists between everyone.

"Lindsey Wilson has a very tight knit family atmosphere that includes strong relationships between students and our faculty and staff," said Beckley. "I think those relationships create the perfect atmosphere for this annual event."

More than 28 students, faculty and staff from the LWC community participated in the event either as players, coaches or officials.

Elementary Education Senior Katrina Hadley of Jamestown, Kentucky enjoyed the event because of its dual-purpose.

"I really enjoyed the atmosphere and just the opportunity to play," said Hadley. "We had a great time for an even greater cause."

LWC Sports Information Intern Grace Blomstedt, a 2019 graduate of LWC, enjoyed participating in the event for the first time.

"It was a cool experience for me because I have watched from the stands the past two years and I've always enjoyed the atmosphere that consumes Biggers every time," said Blomstedt. "I was never able to play for the students because of volleyball so I was excited to get the opportunity to be on the court."

The friendly competition ended with the faculty/staff team holding on to defeat the students by a score of 55-49.
