Vonda Mae Popplewell Fizer, 77, Russell Co., KY native (1942-2019)

Vonda Mae Popplewell Fizer of Byhalia, MS, died Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Diversicare in Ripley, MS. after a long struggle with illness. She was 77 years old.

The funeral service for Vonda Mae Fizer will be held at 1pmCT on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N. Main St., Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Junior Holmes officiating.

Visitation is requested from 11amCT to 1pmCT on Wednesday.


Vonda was born April 1, 1942 in Russell County to the late Emitt and Maudie (Johnson) Popplewell, was a hard worker and of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by: her husband Charles Fizer of Byhalia, MS, a daughter Melissa (Darrell) Keckhaver of Indianapolis, IN, two grandchildren; Brent (Laurie) Keckhaver of Brownsburg, IN, and Jessica (Aaron) Lifford of Colorado Springs, CO, Charles's daughter Karen (Kevin) Moulton and granddaughter Bella of Louisville, KY, three brothers, Darvin (Betty) Popplewell of Morgantown, IN, Thurman Popplewell of Columbus, IN, and Marsel Popplewell of Eli, KY, and one sister Katie (Jerry) Hatfield of Jabez, KY.

She is preceded in death by 5 brothers; Ocus, Coy, Dewell, Kirby, and Bruce Popplewell, and three sisters: Nona Siler, Margie Chumbley, and Audine Fox.
