James Grider, 86, Burkesville, KY (1933-2019)

James Grider of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019 at Cumberland Valley Manor. He was 86 years old.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, September 02, 2019, at 10amCT at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Street, Burkesville, KY with burial in the Grider Family Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3pmCT until 9pmCT on Sunday at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home.

A masonic service will be held on Sunday evening at 7pmCT at the funeral home. The lodge will open for members at 6pmCT.


James was born on June 06, 1933 in Cumberland County, KY to the late Homer Grider and Ettie Davidson Grider.

He was a member of Amandaville Christian Church, a retired employee of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Department of Highways, and a member of Cumberland Masonic Lodge #413.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Elizabeth Estes Grider whom he married on December 24, 1951, five brothers, Yule Grider, Allen William Grider, Shelley Grider, J.B. Grider, and Vernon Grider, brothers-in-law, Bobby Brummett, Randell Gibson, Johnny Kearns, and Porter McCoy, sisters-in-law, Nadine Bruton Grider and Dorothy Brown Grider.

Survivors Include:
  • His Son- James Russell Grider of Columbia, KY
  • Four Sisters- Louise Brummett, Margaret "Cricket" McCoy, and Dottie Gibson all of Burkesville, KY and Kathleen Kearns of Anderson, IN
  • Two Brothers- Jessie Grider, Sr and his wife Brenda of Burkesville, KY and Albert Grider and his wife Dimple of Columbia, KY
  • several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends
