CHFS resources at state fair Public health, foster care and adoption, Medicaid services highlight CHFS resources at state fair By Christina Dettman/Jordan Rowe Frankfort, KY - Visitors to the Kentucky State Fair are encouraged to stop by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) exhibit. The booth will include a wide range of CHFS services including substance use disorder resources, mental health information, children and parents programs, and other health and family assistance initiatives. The fair opens Thursday, Aug. 15, and concludes Sunday, Aug. 25 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. The CHFS exhibit will be in the Health Horizons section of South Wing B. One featured portion of the exhibit will be FindHelpNowKY.org, the state's primary web referral service for the public to quickly find addiction treatment services. The website and associated hotline and texting function was created by the Kentucky Injury and Research Prevention Center (KIPRC) in partnership the Department for Public Health, within CHFS, the Office of Drug Control Policy in the Kentucky Justice Cabinet, and Gov. Matt Bevin. "FindHelpNowKY.org offers convenient, real-time information about patient openings at treatment programs and guides users to the right type of treatment for their needs," said CHFS Secretary Adam Meier. "Our interactive exhibit also includes valuable information about how to stop the spread of infectious diseases, new services to better serve our Medicaid clients, behavioral health, emergency preparedness, and much more." As part of our Department for Public Health (DPH) exhibit on harm reduction, the Kentucky Pharmacists Association will conduct naloxone training and distribution on Monday, Aug. 19. A state mobile harm reduction unit, which is operated by DPH and the Pharmacists Association, will be on display during the fair. Foster care and adoption caseworkers will be at the exhibit every day to answer questions and provide information about how the state is transforming the child welfare system. Another daily exhibit at the booth will be "The Lung Challenge," a Kentucky Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Program activity that lets visitors test their lung capacity. On Senior Day, Tuesday, Aug. 20, CHFS staff and legal volunteers will help people create a living will and other end of life documents.
