Johnie James (Socks) Biggs, 91, Columbia, KY (1928-2019)

He was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean War, a lifetime member of VFW Post 6097, a retired mail carrier and a farmer.

Johnie James "Socks" Biggs of Columbia, died Saturday, August 3, 2019 at T.J. Health Columbia Emergency Room. He was 91 years old.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 1pmCT at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Lanny Garner & Bro. Rick Shelton officiating.

Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery with full military honors presented by VFW Post 6097.

Visitation is requested after 3pmCT on Monday.


He was born January 31, 1928 in Adair County to the late John Johnson & Katie Pike Biggs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray & Stanley Biggs, and one sister, Nancy Biggs.

Johnie attended Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. He was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean War, a lifetime member of VFW Post 6097, a retired mail carrier and a farmer.

Survivors Include:
  • His Wife - Creola Cox Biggs of Greensburg
  • One Son - Jeff Biggs of Columbia
  • One Daughter - Jennifer Biggs of Columbia
  • One Sister - Cora Nell Cook & her husband Buster of Louisville
  • Several nieces, nephews & other relatives & friends
Casket Bearers: George Rice, Bob Hutcheson, Phillip Cundiff, Randy Biggs, Bo Biggs & Mike Smith
