Giles house coming events

GILES HOUSE COMING EVENTS - Events in July, October, Renovation complete...

The Giles Society will be hosting Edward B. Smith as "Adolph Rupp" July 13th at 5:00 at the Giles House. Bring your blanket and picnic dinner.

The Arts and Crafts Day is October 5th from 8:00 to 3:00 at the Giles House in Knifley, KY. The booth space is $25.00 and this is for Kentucky arts and crafts. Contact Beverly England 270 384-5906, e-mail: bengland@duo-county.com, or contact Sharon Greer.

The Janice Holt and Henry Giles Foundation has restored the cabin in which most of the Giles' books were written at Spout Springs, Knifley, Kentucky. Events are held there regularly. In addition to lawn chairs and food, folks often bring empty water containers with them and take home a sample of the clear, cold spring water. You will find many stories in our archives on the Foundation and on the authors, feel free to search and enjoy.

If you're coming from off and have to stop in at the country store for directions, watch how you speak. You'll be laughed out if, when you ask how to get to Knifley, you say it as if there's a knife in the word -- no knives -- it's not called knife-ley. Knifley has the word "if" in the middle. Say N-if-lee and you'll get the respect you deserve and get right to the directions without any humiliation. (Email your coming events to: linda@columbiamagazine.com)
