CPD hires new officers Trevor Foster and Evan Burton Released by the office of the Columbia Police Department The Columbia Police Department swore in two new officers Wednesday morning. Mayor Pam Hoots with Chief Jason Cross officially swore in Trevor Foster and Evan Burton. Foster, 25, is a lifelong resident of the Sano Community in Adair County and previously worked at the Adair Youth Development Center. He will be sent to the Department of Criminal Justice Training Academy later this year. Burton, 28, previously spent eight years with the Russell County Sheriff’s Office and is a 2012 graduate of DOCJT. With the additions of Burton and Foster the Columbia Police Department is now fully staffed for the first time in nearly two years, after the retirement of Sergeant Tracy McCarol and the departure of Officer Josh Brockman after his election to Sheriff last fall.
