Host Family Appreciation at LWC, Intl Student Programs By Bryson Jones On Monday, April 29, 2019, the International Student Programs (ISP) at LWC had their annual Host Family Appreciation gathering. The audience included 170 people from a 6-county area. The evening started off with Doris Day's version of "Que Sera Sera" (it was the actual recording, after all, we did not want to scare folks!). The Director of the Program, Sabine Eastham, pointed out that although our future is not ours to see, that because of their action, of their involvement and investment in our wonderful students, the future of our ISPWORLDSTARS is so much brighter! By taking action and getting involved, our wonderful host families helped create memories and provided opportunities that our students would not have had otherwise. For this, Eastham said, "we will be forever grateful." Students from the LWC Flute Trio performed several songs and our team from Japan performed a modern dance "USA by Dapump". Students had an open mic opportunity to share what it meant to have a host family. Needless to say, this was a very emotional part of the evening. Several host families are facing the inevitable as their students are scheduled to graduate in May and return to their home countries. But we also know that lifelong friendships have been formed. Families across the world are getting connected and reaching out to one another...this morning I saw an invitation on Facebook from the Mother of one of our students from France, to his Host mother and host family in Kentucky: she not only thanked them deeply but also promised that they will have a place to stay in France should they ever have a chance to visit. Student employees of ISP were surprised with certificates and tokens of appreciation for their embracing, empowering, unwavering and sincere support of ISP and our #ispworldstars. If you are interested in learning more about this event, or becoming a host parent or family, contact Sabine Eastham at easthams@lindsey.edu or call 270-384-8236.
