Pianist and alumna Hsing-Yi Tsai to present solo recital at CU By Whitley Howlett Campbellsville, KY - Hsing-Yi Tsai, a 2017 alumna of Campbellsville University, will be returning to present a guest piano recital on Monday, April 15 at 7pmCT/8pmET in The Gheens Recital Hall, located in Gosser Fine Arts Center at 210 University Drive, Campbellsville, KY. She will also be teaching a piano masterclass for students in The Gheens Recital Hall on Monday, April 15 at 10amET. All events are open to the public. Originally from Taiwan, Tsai began studying piano at the age of three and progressed rapidly. She is a graduate from Tainan University of Technology with a major in piano and minor in the Chinese pipa. She then completed her Master of Music in Piano Performance and an Artist Diploma at Campbellsville University in 2017, where she also served as a graduate assistant in the School of Music. While at Campbellsville, she studied under Dr. Wesley Roberts, professor of music, and performed Liszt's "Totentanz" and Robert Schumann's Piano Concerto with the Campbellsville University Orchestra. Tsai now studies under Dr. Peter Amstutz at West Virginia University in the Doctor of Musical Arts program. Along with her studies, she has also performed the Schumann Concerto with the West Virginia University Orchestra. Tsai is the recipient of many awards in both Taiwan and the United States. She was awarded first place in the 2015-16 Music Teachers National Association (MTNA)/Kentucky Music Teachers Association Young Artists Piano Competition in Bowling Green, Ky. She has just been awarded third place in MTNA's National Finals in Piano Duo performance in Spokane, Washington, along with her duo partner Yiwen Zhang.
