LWC Nursing Receives Accreditation Renewal By Mariah Beasley and Travis Smith The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) announced the Lindsey Wilson College Bachelor of Science in Nursing program has met their accreditation standards. The 10-year accreditation extension was awarded in November based on the program's mission, goals, expected outcomes and an assessment of the program's performance. The accreditation will be effective through December 31, 2028. "Receiving an accreditation period of ten years is a testament to the quality of our program, as viewed through the self-study and site visit process," said LWC Vice President of Academic Affairs Trish Parrish. "This achievement is due to the tremendous work of our nursing faculty and staff under the leadership of Dr. Emiley Button. Congratulations and thank you for your work on behalf of LWC students." There are two tracks for a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at LWC that received accreditation - prelicensure and RN to BSN. LWC freshmen begin as pre-nursing majors. Those who meet the program's rigorous academic standards are admitted to the nursing program at the end of their freshman year. The RN to BSN track is for registered nurses with an associate's degree who wish to obtain their BSN fully online. Director of Nursing Emiley Button said that this accreditation is confirmation of the quality education provided by the nursing program. "This is a part of Kentucky that desperately needs well-rounded, highly prepared nurses," said Button, "Not only are we helping the public by educating competent, compassionate nurses, but we're also helping the students become better people professionally and personally. This accreditation just further shows that we are a quality program with accountability and integrity." And Button said the dedication of the LWC nursing faculty was a big contributor to receiving the accreditation. "I am impressed with how much extra time and energy our faculty give to the students," said Button. "It is not uncommon for our faculty, outside of class time, to arrange study sessions where they'll study with the students and be available to clarify or answer questions when they're not required to do so. No other nursing program I know of does that and I think that that culture they've created is a big contributor to why we received the accreditation." This story was posted on 2019-01-16 06:20:46
