Happy New Year with some Anniversary Memories By Linda Waggener Wishing everyone a good transition tonight from 2018 into a very Happy and Successful New Year, 2019! As I miss my husband, Ed, on this our 49th wedding anniversary, I wish each of you joy and good health and the magic that comes in the ups and downs of a long life with a special partner. I miss his voice and the devilish smile that made the skin around his blue eyes crinkle, and I missed his early morning question on this day, heard on each of the last 48 anniversaries, "Do YOU know what day this is?" So I've heard that question in my mind today and I answered his picture, of course I know what day this is. I could almost hear him argue, no, you'd forget if I didn't remind you. Forty-nine years ago this evening, of a Thursday - after the newspapers were delivered for the week - we were married by Rev. David Gardner in the Columbia Baptist Church with Dr. Steve and Ann Duggins Aaron standing up for us. We bid them farewell and took off for a honeymoon in Gatlinburg, TN and plans to be back to start the papers again on Monday morning, which we did. The pounding, blowing rain and angry gray skies of this afternoon's storm fit my mood perfectly. The sweet memories of anniversaries from that night through the 48th anniversary have given me smiles and laughter and tears today - and, if I'm honest, some anger because we don't get to have more of them together. In those moments of anger, I pout like the child on the end of the seesaw that plops to the ground when the best friend hops off the other side, without warning, and races away.
