Red Ribbon Week: Strong Together Against Bullying and Drugs By Calen McKinney Red Ribbon Week is the largest drug prevention campaign in the country, and serves as a way for students to take a stand against illegal drugs. Campbellsville Middle School students and staff members are celebrating Red Ribbon Week with several special events. This year, Red Ribbon Week is taking place October 22-26. Events include special dress up days and other activities. Monday was We Are Strong Together Against Bullying and Drugs Day, and students wore wear red, white and blue. Students received Red Ribbon Week bracelets. Dress-up day winners were sixth-graders Noah Leachman and Kylee Sowders, seventh-graders Dalton Morris and Aaliyah Nunez and eighth-graders Aubrey Young and Gavin Morris. Tuesday ws Be A Hero: Help, Encourage and Respect Others Day, and students will wear camouflage items. Students will receive Red Ribbon Week candy. On Wednesday, students wore hats for Hats Off to Being Drug Free Day. Students will receive Red Ribbon Week stickers. Thursday is Real Heroes Don't Do Drugs Day, with students wearing superhero items. Students will receive Red Ribbon Week pencils. And Friday is Show Your Pride ... Drug Free Day, and students can wear purple and gold clothing. Students are asked to not paint their faces or color their hair for the dress-up days. On Monday, Oct. 22, guest speaker Robby Speer spoke to CMS students about life choices. Students were given Red Ribbon Week bracelets, and those who are wearing them through the week will randomly be given tickets for prizes.
