Ewing Smiley, 99, Adair County, KY (1918-2018)

He was a member of Freedom Church of God. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from October 7, 1941 to October 17, 1945, in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. After the war he married Lula Roy & they raised their family in Cincinnati, Ohio where he worked at the Cincinnati Union Terminal. He returned to Adair County in 1978 and was a farmer prior to his retirement. He was the patriarch of a large, highly respected family. He was the son of the late William Lewis & Della Ann Sullivan Smiley, and the widower of Lula Pearl Roy Smiley. He leaves 29 direct living descendants.

Ewing Smiley, 99, of Columbia, KY passed away Monday, February 5, 2018 10:55 PM at the nursing home in Jamestown, KY.

Funeral service will be Saturday February 10, 2018 at 1pmCT at Stotts-Phelps McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Carlie Riggs and Bro. Scott Allen the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Adair County at Freedom Cemetery, 515 Freedom Church Road, Russell Springs, KY, with full Military Honors presented by the local VFW Post 6097. Visitation will be after 9:30amCT, Saturday. Pallbearers Eric Goodman, Paul Goodman, Robert Goodman, Mark Smiley, Todd Smiley, Michael Stearns & Howard Foster

He was born on June 2, 1918 at Garlin, KY in Adair County. He was the son of the late William Lewis & Della Ann Sullivan Smiley. He died Monday, February 5, 2018, in Jamestown, Russell County, KY, at the age of 99 years, He was preceded in death by his wife Lula Pearl Roy Smiley, May 9, 2013. He also preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers, Malba Combest, Lula Mae Smiley, Alvis Smiley, Donald Smiley, Benjamin Smiley & Leonard Smiley.

He survived by: He was a member of Freedom Church of God. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from October 7, 1941 to October 17, 1945, in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. After the war he married Lula Roy & they raised their family in Cincinnati, Ohio where he worked at the Cincinnati Union Terminal. He returned to Adair County in 1978 and was a farmer prior to his retirement.
