No. 9 LWC Wrestling beats No. 12 Campbellsville 24-12

COLUMBIA, KY - (Thu 01 Feb 2018) - The Lindsey Wilson wrestling team maintained its perfect conference dual record as the Blue Raiders topped rival Campbellsville (KY) 24-12 on Thursday night at Biggers Sports Center.
Lindsey Wilson (7-2, 5-0 Mid-South Conference) won seven of the 10 matchups on the night, including four of the final five to help put the dual away against the Tigers (7-8, 1-3 MSC).
The opening five matches were all decisions, Chad Lampe and Brady Moser getting things started with back-to-back victories for LWC.
Lampe (ranked No. 15 at 125 pounds) used early takedowns to build his lead over 18th-ranked Jordan Martinez in one of two ranked battles on the evening. Lampe eventually pulled away for the 11-5 win. Moser (No. 11 at 133) led wire-to-wire in his victory, picking up the ride time point en route to his 8-3 win over Aaron Rugnao.
Lucas McCain found himself way behind early in his matchup with seventh-ranked Jayce Carr at 141 pounds. But McCain, despite being down 14-5 following the second period, continued to battle and used a pair of near falls to trim the deficit late, but the hill was too steep to climb and Carr secured the 16-11 win.
Cam Tessari (No. 1 at 157) got the Blue Raiders back in the win column at the 149-pound match after he shutout Michael Diemer 6-0 to give LWC a 9-3 lead.
Bryce Hoffman and David Sparks wrestled to a wild ending at the 157-pound match. In a match that featured a pair of late reversals, Sparks was able to secure his in the waning seconds to take the matchup 5-4.
Brett Bradford (No. 18 at 165) was dominant in his matchup with LJ Henderson at 165 pounds. Bradford used four-point near falls in the opening period to build a 14-0 lead after three minutes. After a scoreless second period, Bradford secured another takedown just 18 seconds into the third period to end the match early with a 17-0 tech fall.
In a pivotal matchup at 174 pounds between sixth-ranked Colton Gonzalez and fourth-ranked Justin Brown, the duo battled to a 4-4 tie following the opening three periods, sending things into overtime. In the first overtime period, Gonzalez was able to divert a Brown takedown attempt and secure one of his own with just 2.7 seconds left to take the SV-1 6-4 victory, giving LWC a 17-6 lead.
Campbellsville was able to cut into the deficit after second-ranked Chuck Sharon pinned Kohl Dodd at 184 pounds. But Corey Hinkle followed with a convincing 8-0 major decision win over Jacob Franklin at 197 pounds to mathematically secure the victory for the Blue Raiders at 21-12.
Brandon Reed (No. 9 at 285) added a 6-3 win at the heavyweight bout over Nate Jackson to bring the final to 24-12.
