Local history: Whatever happened to Bill Beard?

That picture and story of Bill Beard was excellent. I remember Bill when I was young and have heard the story of him giving directions many times. I have asked several people, but never found the answer - what ever happened to Bill?

He is quite a legend, and I would love to hear more stories if the readers will share.

Thanks. He was, indeed, quite a legend, a beloved icon of Columbia. Bill Beard died in Greensburg, KY, in 2001. His obituary has been posted at Bill Beard (1927-2001).
