William Veachel Starr, 44 Community of Barren County, KY (1919-2017)

He was a faithful Christian man, who maintained high standards of steadfast loyalty. He was a member of his church for 77 years. He and his wife were married for 69 years. He was a native of Nobob, KY, and a resident of the 44 Community, both in Barren County, KY, at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Louis Starr & Mattie E. Goode Starr Shives. He leaves nine direct living descendants, spanning three generations.

William Veachel Starr, age 98, of the 44 Community of Barren County, passed away peacefully to his eternal home on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, surrounded by family and friends at his residence.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 1pmCT, at Union #2 Missionary Baptist Church, with Brother Berlon Roy officiating, burial will follow in the Poplar Log Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, September 29, 2017, at McMurtrey Funeral Home, 2232 Summer Shade Road, Summer Shade, KY, from 4pm-8pmCT, Friday, September 29, 2017, and on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the funeral home from 8am-10:30amCT, and after 11amCT, at the Union # 2 Church.


William Veachel Starr, 98, 44 Community, Barren Co., KY

Born April 27, 1919 in Nobob, Barren County, KY, he was a son of the late Louis Starr & Mattie E. Goode Starr Shives. He died Wednesday, September 27, 2017, in the 44 Community of Barren County, KY, at the age of 98 years, five months.

He was the husband of Ruby Fields Starr, who survives. They were married for 69 years.

He was a farmer and a member of Union # 2 Missionary Baptist Church since 1940.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include:
  • One daughter: Mary (Billy) Baise, Glasgow, KY

  • Two sons: Larry (Linda) Starr, Marion, KY; and Jerry (Geneva) Starr, Glasgow, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Jason Starr, Zackary and Andrew Baise, all of Glasgow, KY; and Sheila (Chuck) Jones, Austin, KY

  • Two great grandchildren: Gracie and Noah Jones, Austin, KY
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Jewell Simmons, Susie Garrett, Mary Nell Steen, and Gladys Simmons; and two brothers, Robert Starr and Ray Starr.
