Betty Smith, 87, Taylor County, KY (1930-2017)

She was a member of Lowell Avenue Baptist Church and in her earlier years worked as a cashier for Kroger. She was a native of Jeffersonville, IN, and a resident of Campbellsville, KY, at the time of her death. She was the matriarch of a respected Taylor County, KY family. She was the daughter of the late John Caspar & Annabelle Shannon Guenther. Her husband, Eugene Smith, Sr., survives. She leaves 10 direct living descendants.

Betty Smith, 87, of Campbellsville, died Friday, September 22, 2017 in Campbellsville following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12pmNoonCT/1pmET Monday, September 25, 2017k at the Lowell Avenue Baptist Church, 420 Lowell Ave, Campbellsville, KY with Rev. Dave Walters officiating. Entombment will follow at Campbellsville Memorial Gardens, 700 Old U.S. 68, Campbellsville, KY. The family requests visitation from 10am-12pmNoonCT/11am-1pmET, Monday at the church prior to the funeral service.


Betty Smith, 87, Taylor County, KY (1930-2017)

She was born on January 15, 1930 in Jeffersonville, Clark County, IN. She was the daughter of the late John Caspar & Annabelle Shannon Guenther. She died Friday, September 22, 2017, in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY, at the age of 87 years, eight months, and seven days.

She was a member of Lowell Avenue Baptist Church and in her earlier years worked as a cashier for Kroger.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Anna Mae Alexander and Laverne Hardin.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene Smith, Sr., and the following:
  • A son: Leon Smith and his wife, Karen of Russellville, KY

  • A daughter: Norma "Sissie" Wheeler and her husband, Bobby of Perryville, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Brian (Nicole) Wheeler, Steven (Heather) Wheeler, Aaron (Heather) Smith and Tyler (Taylor) Smith

  • Four great-grandchildren: Owen, Ella, Naomi and Lydia Wheeler
