Downtown Days festival set for Fri & Sat, 13 & 14 Oct 2017

By Linda Waggener

Renaissance Columbia Downtown Days organizational work is in progress with the dates set for Friday and Saturday, October 13 and 14, 2017.

Traffic changes will be announced in advance when the public square is to be closed -- normally festival traffic will route from each of the four incoming roads into the alleys, one block before arrival to the square:

1) Jamestown Street traffic will flow onto Reed Street at that corner
2) Campbellsville Street traffic at Reed/Merchant Streets
3) Greensburg Street onto Monroe Street, and
4) Burkesville Street onto Fortune Street at that corner
This is a memory from one festival when a then-little-known candidate was here campaigning -- I wonder if Matt Bevin really sent that photo he promised to Sonny's Wood Crafts?

The festival always offers plenty of things for families to enjoy together. One requested item, the re-enactment of the James' Gang robbery of the Bank of Columbia, hasn't happened for the past few years and will not be done this year. The galloping horses, guns firing in the air and shouting cowboys was a proven midday crowd holder in the days when it could be done.
