This is to report the theft of Pawpaws

There was this wonderful clump of Pawpaws getting ready to ripen on the little tree in the yard. I celebrated the discovery with this picture. Two weeks afterward, they were gone with no evidence of them ever having been there at all.
Thanks to good friend Jackie Montgomery I have tasted this season's unique custardy Pawpaw fruit even though it didn't come from my yard. She bought the last selection of them from Donna Jones at the Farmers Market.
As we enjoyed the Pawpaws, we discussed the proper pronunciation -- is it pa pa, like a grandfather? Is it pow pow like gun shots? Or is it paw paw, like cat's feet? No evidence of what happened to the ones on the tree. They'd simply disappeared, possibly at the hands of a hungry animal. We may never know. Comments | Permalink
